On January 1, 2009 IRS Regulation 7216 became effective. The regulation updates the rules regarding the disclosure and use of tax return information by tax return preparers. It is intended to protect confidential financial or contact information from being given out to and used by third parties and to regulate the use of this information by the firm for nontax purposes.
